UX/UI Design for Music Discovery App

mish* is a conceptual mobile app made to reimagine the way friends discuss, discover and experience music together online. Inspired by a close-knit Facebook group started with friends in 2014, the project was born out of a desire to recreate the excitement of sharing new releases, debating albums and building community around music in a more intentional and organized digital space. The project began with extensive UX and user research, including competitor analysis, surveys, discussion interviews and persona development to better understand how people currently discover and talk about music online. We explored the strengths and frustrations of platforms like Reddit, Facebook, WhatsApp and music forums, identifying a gap between chaotic public discussion boards and cluttered group chats. mish* was designed to fill that gap by creating a centralized and private social space where users could discuss music through threaded conversations, discover new artists through community-driven rankings and interact with music in a more meaningful way. From early sketches and wireframes to high-fidelity iOS interface designs, we developed the app’s entire user experience and visual identity system. The platform combines familiar social media behaviours with music-focused features such as album rankings, interactive leaderboards, discussion boards and personalized discovery tools. Designed with a clean and immersive interface, mish* balances entertainment, education and community to create an experience that feels both social and deeply personal. Still evolving as part of a passion project, mish* continues to grow through new ideas with the hopes of turining it into a real digital product one day.
